The Impsider - Media Molecule
At Media Molecule, I frequently contributed to the official Dreams editorial blog, The Impsider. This took the form of weekly digests reviewing standout community creations, interviews & digital magazines for seasonal events and Media Molecule originals. I also provided UX copywriting for our in-game banners & playlists alongside contributions to editorial collaborations with external outlets.
Tren Manual: To commemorate the release of the Mm Original game Tren, the Editorial team created a tie-in digital manual. Presented as an authentic original manual for the fictional 1980s Tren toy designed by manufacturer BeechCorp (as seen in-game), we leant into both the overtly sinister corporate tone and whimsical nostalgia of the presentation for the humour. Inspired by Tren's narrative pillars of the passage of time and parenthood, we worked with Brand to overlay childlike doodles and scribbles to convey these themes within the manual. We also found inspiration through similar game manuals and materials from the time (eg: Seaman, ZX Spectrum games, Argos catalogues).
The Land of Lost Dreams Tourist Guide: As part of Dreams' 2022 All Hallows' Dream event, we designed an accompanying tourist brochure for the fictional realm of the tie-in game The Land of Lost Dreams. I initially ideated a tourist brochure for a separate in-game collection on creations spanning the globe, but working with Editorial, we adapted the concept to further develop the world-building and surreal characters found in the event. Creating a fictional tourist agency D.Tours (complete with a bespoke logo designed by Brand), the brochure is contextualised as a lost relic found in the Land, complete with annotations from other trapped visitors. We also used the brochure as a platform to spotlight UGC made for the event (Forest of Glooms and Cursed Trinkets).
DreamsCom Magazines: For both DreamsCom '21 and '22, Editorial created companion magazines for each convention outlining standout UGC booths and features co-written by Media Molecule developers. As a Content Curator, my contributions came in the form of demo reviews for upcoming creations by the community, categorised as they appear in-game.
Lost in Cult: I contributed a curated selection of community artwork made in Dreams for Lock-On 004's cover feature. I also assisted with sourcing community creators for interview to share their unique experiences creating in Dreams and their development ambitions.
